Until recently the only available way to locate consumers with the intention of pushing retail notifications has been via GPS technology, cellular or Wi-Fi connections.
GPS is problematic because consumers usually deactivate their phones GPS receiver to conserve battery life. Another negative is that GPS relies on being outside to be reliable.
Using Wi-Fi requires consumers to logon to the Wi-Fi network in order to gain location access.
The obstacles presented by Wi-Fi and GPS are now overcome with the use of low energy Bluetooth devices. Using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for marketing purposes requires a few simple steps. The consumer needs to install a mobile APP to allow the transmitted Bluetooth signals to reach their device.
