What is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
If you hear someone has Duchenne muscular dystrophy you probably have no idea what this is. However Duchenne muscular dystrophy is one of the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed in children which is found on the X-chromosome and affects approximately 1 in every 3,500 male births.
There is around 2500 people who have Duchenne muscular dystrophy in the UK. Life expectancy is improving as standards of care and knowledge about Duchenne increases. Currently with the correct help some men live into their 30’s and even their 40’s.
Although there are medical treatments that can help slow the progression, there is currently no cure for Duchenne.
